HDTV calibration - where would you like to start?

Digital Video Essentials or DVE HD Basics, a tool created by Joe Kane, considered by many to be a legend in the home theater industry, is said to be "the definitive High Definition home theater calibration tool."

In an attempt to help you understand how to get the most from your TV set, and improve picture quality, the HDTV calibration tool starts off asking you "where would you like to start?" and then the menu presents the different options available to you.

HD In Detail - This option, a tutorial lasting an hour and a half, provides an overview of HDTVs and how they work, and what callibration settings are necessary and why.

Setting Up My HDTV - In less than a half hour's time, with this option, you can follow the steps necessary to improving overall picture quality of the HDTV.

Setting Up My HDTV - The program is equipped with a series of test patterns. This lets you choose which ones to perform.

Video tests include standard calibration, such as color, resolution, brightness, contrast, gray scale, overscan and geometry. Also, more advanced tests can be performed to get the most out of your 1080p (or 720p) HD display.

The DVE HD Basics tool also bundles with a printed manual that further illustrates whether your system is setup optimally or not. It is available on DVD or Blu-Ray on Amazon for between $30 and $40.
