Hello

I was wondering how to increase more the signal strength that I get of my rooftop antenna, I have a 8 elements antenna antenna and get 70 percent of signal strenght I wish get 90 at least what can do for increase the signal strenght?

How I Can Increase The Signal Strength

Actually, it can be helpful to think of it as the antenna system. While a bigger antenna can help, don't forget the importance of good, low loss, coaxial feedline. If you have a good antenna, but lossy RG-59 cable, much of the signal is lost via the cable, so I generally suggest that people consider only RG-6, or better, for every section of their antenna system!

Francisco,

I realize your Country doesn't use the North American 8VSB standard, but I suspect it propegates very similarly. More signal is not always better: a clean low-level signal always beats a noisy high-level signal. I still think you tuner is dealing with too much 'noise' arriving with the signal you are receiving.

Please remind us the frequencies or frequency-ranges (bands) you are having trouble receiving. Perhaps we can suggest different antenna designs that might help you.

well i got an small LED LCD tv of 22 inches for the kitchen and have a turner built in, and well checking the signal meter says 70-73% signal strength but 100% of signal quality, Jim our system is COFDM modulation is not 8VSB, if were 8VSB would be better, but today i did test with the 3 antennas that own, one rabbit ear RCA one flat panel RCA and the rooftop one, with the 2 indoors antennas the signal strength was 70% and signal quality 98-100% with the rooftop antenna was 70-73% signal strength and in a channel in particular the 26 the signal strength was 26% and when moved the rooftop antenna a few inches got 33-35% signal strength, and signal quality 100% which is weird.

the LCD LED tv is an LG LV2500

the channel 26 can not be tuned by my two converter boxes that i have only by this new television that we purchased can be tuned, i do not understand, i have a good wiring and already i do not know, the low signal strength, should be 100% or 90 at least with the rooftop antenna not 70%.

well here the frequencies all in UHF2

Francisco,

Compared to most other viewers, you are trying to receive a very narrow range of UHF frequencies, 533-587 mHz.

Before you try what I suggest, let's wait for opinions from others ... but ... I suggest you chop off the long VHF reflector on your 'chair antenna photo' and make it about 5% longer than the other elements. It is not necessary in your location and it may be collecting 'noise' from your neighbor's kitchen blender, fluorescent lights etc.

well i was thinking in get an antenna for only DTV as in Chile we will not use VHF for DTV so was thinking in get an antenna of 12 elements and 11.5DB of gain, this one that actually have is of 8 elements and unknown gain, this one is for VHF-UHF and just have good performance till 20KM /12 miles far away from the repeater.

i do not know if do the upgrade or just stay,

question when use an antenna with reflector and when use an antenna without this reflector in V shape?

.

best regards

Interesting was watching another place where purchase antennas, made in chile and not made in china they build and sell antennas probably would find what I need

Another thing I got tuned the channel 26 in my two converter boxes, with 35% signal and the little tv with 30%

But my antenna must be 6 db gain only and very uhf .

Spot-on EV,

I read elsewhere, those ("Radio Shack/AntennaCraft") corner reflectors were discontinued a while back but I happen to have one in perfect condition that I am not using. It could be a winner for him.

Thinking more about it, it would be far more directional than his strange Yagi-ish antenna and by its design, it will not receive 'noise nor signals' from behind: the beauty of a corner reflector - because it is focussed one-way.

Also, it is not an antenna meant to ever receive Channel 83 (long gone) so it is 'sized' pretty well for what Francisco's local transmitters - um - transmit.

If Francisco is game to try it, I am game to ship it to him! As you know, I've shipped antennas to several dedicated members here before.

Jim

PS Francisco ---Yes?

I got today an antenna of 13 elements and 15 db of gain works good althought haven't done fine tunning, but the signal strenght in some channels improved about 20% on channels with weaker signals or signals with 30% now gets 75 and 54% on weak signals is one with reflector

Is rare get in the manual channel search an signal on the meter, of the channel 53 but so weak that can't lock up probably 20% signal only, with my old antenna couldn't do even detect that, by the way can have in the same mast two antennas, one in lower position than the other? Or have to quit the other antenna?

here are a better picture of the installation

here is anoter picture of my installation

bellow is my old antenna that i would use for FM or perhaps use an UHF-VHF mixer and combine both antennas
DSCF5141.jpg

and the view from the roof
IMG268.jpg

well that is my neighborhood, i do not like but well.

now i am opened to some suggestions, but have done some fine tunning and not get the desired results still with the same strengths of signal but the big improvement are in the channels of low signal and well is just a wonderful antenna, must be because the signals are in test stage so the ERP are not that big as should be, but i am happy because this antenna even performs good in UHF analogic and some VHF channels analigic too.

well any comments are welcomed

best regards

Francisco
