If you have a composite outputs on your CECB, you would connect the yellow to the TV and the red to right surround input and white to left surround input. Have you tried it this way?

You may need two separate composite wires. one to carry the audio from the converter box to your receiver/surround system (the red and white wire 1inxs mentioned) and the other to carry the video signal from the converter to your TV (the yellow wire that 1inxs mentioned).

You won't be able to pull in surround sound with the converter box but you will be able to get good stereo sound from local broadcasts that will play through all of the speakers on your surround sound system.

FYI composite inputs are also known as RCA inputs (as well as composite wire also being known as RCA wire).

It would help if you listed your surround sound system equipment and if you hve cable or satellite service as well. Are you picking up any channels with the converter box?
