HR24-500 Receiver Sound Dropping Out on Live TV - DirecTV

My DirectTV HR24-500 DVR receiver is connected via high quality HDMI cable (Audioquest Cinnamon) to my Denon AVR 3313CI. My sound is dropping out when watching live TV. The readout on the Denon AVR 3313CI changes, reflecting only 2 out of the 7.1 available channels when this dropout happens. This problem does not happen when listening to internet radio (pandora, spotify), watching apple TV, or programs previously recorded on the DVR. It only happens with live TV. It seems to me that the incoming signal is "confusing" the receiver, but I don't know what is causing the problem. My Denon support group says that a firmware update to the DirecTV DVR is the likely problem. What steps should I take to fix this?
