LG BD630 Network Blu-ray Disc Player

This is just a moderate little blu-ray player I bought to go with a new small TV in a spare room. Funny thing is, I never did find a TV in the price range I wanted, so now I have this player and nothing to really do with it. However, I wanted to make sure it worked so I attached it to my main TV. Now what I loved is that it is really plug in and go. There is no setup. That's cool. I don't care about the network stuff, and a lot of folks said this was ideal if you just want the DVD element. So, I put in my new Ben-Hur (not blu-ray, just regular -- I don't own a single blu-ray disk). Here's what I don't like -- the color. Egads! Talk about vivid reds and pinks and greens. People's lips were like ... I don't know ... but it wasn't normal. I keep playing with the color display on the DVD, but I can't get it to be logical. I've toned down the color to something more reasonable, but their faces also look rather pale or powdered .. or whitewashed. It gives you the option of altering contrast, brightness, color, and sharpness ... there's about 4 "jumps" in each of those. If it weren't for this annoyance, I'd like the thing and might even buy blu-rays, but there's no plus in it here since I can't get the color to adjust right.

Some *NEW* TV sets allow you to adjust settings "per input" allowing you to adjust a DVD player with different audio/video settings than, say, your VCR. I don't know if that helps you out... Or it could just be a defective unit. Try swapping it for another if possible - you have nothing to lose.

One good thing about having a Blu-ray player is often times the Redbox is out of the DVD version, but they have the Blu-ray available for only 30 cents more.

Yeah that is what this does. I have never seen that before, to be honest. It is totally a color/contrast/brightness/sharpness setup for the DVD only. Right now I am experimenting a little by watching the same thing in both my regular DVD and this new one. If I continue to see the same thing, I'll exchange it. That will tell me if it is the unit.

How is the TV connected to the Blu Ray? Are you using the composite (yellow, red & white), component (red, green, blue, red & white) or HDMI?

If the problem still exists once the type of connection is established, here is another possibile solution. Go to the main menu of the disk player & make sure the output is set to the correct setting for your TV. I had the same problem last night with a friends set & after changing the setting to 525P the vivid pinks & reds turned into a gourgeous rainbow of colors.

My set up does say HDMI, which is how it is connected. There are two options there. The one it is using says YcbCr and the other option is RGB. It's where it should be from what I understand. From reviewing the settings, I don't think what you mentioned is the problem, but then again, I don't see anything that says output except for audio. Thanks for trying!

Mine is connected by HDMI connector and works fine, my television is a panasonic viera plasma and have on auto the deep color setting.

My blu ray player is a philips bdp3200 and is fantastic the image settings usually hdmi use the same system used to computers of displays that are plug and play to report to the blu ray player what resolutions, formats and aspect rate support your television or display. In my case always is on 1080p
Is xv color set in on?

525 is pal resolution not ntsc or even the fps used in the americas which is 59.94 or 29, 97 fps,

Also can check up some blu ray player have the option of auto resolution and settings

Also can be a issue of the television usually lcdtv the skin tones looks too whitewash and pale colors.thanks god I own a plasma display.

Also can try a different hdmi cable

I actually traded it in for a new one and there is a drastic difference. However, the color is still weird. Lips are like flourescent when lipstick is worn and faces can be palish. It just makes me totally against blu-ray. I have never had to worry about this stuff with a regular dvd player, so geeks can keep the blu-ray. I'm sticking with regular DVD as my primary.

Try turning off the settings face correction, color management or dynamic color and try of set up gamma too, together with black level, I have an lg led tv and I find turning into low dynamic color the face tones looks more natural than turning on high level.

Also try the color gamut in standard not use wide, everything on HD already have a wide color gamut so if you put in wide then the colors gets wrong ,

Also set up color management into SMTPE , or REC 709 don't even try EBU because this color space is used for the european television system whatever be analogic or digital, the american standard is SMTPE or REC709 .

Are both the DVD & Blu-Ray connected to the same input on the TV? Each input on the TV must be individually adjusted for optimum PQ. Also, not all devices output the same color balance, so the Blu-Ray may require different settings than the standard DVD player.

I have 2 older, low end Blu-Ray players & the picture is breathtaking on both units.

No, the old DVD is actually connected with RCA jacks. It's that old. The new one is connected through HDMI. I've checked everything and am out of ideas on it. At least this one is better than the first one.

I have to chuckle at the 'mind' of this unit. I discovered this week that if I turn the blu ray on, it turns on my TV too. It's just crazy. lol

That is called HDMI CEC consumer electronics control which allow take control of your player or anything via your television remote control, also can turn on your television and backwards change to the appropriate channel and simplify the things, supposed to work in any brand but isn't that like roses color, my blu ray philips easy link works ok but if push sub menu in my viera television appear the options and if select the option don't work the item, also the lg simplink isn't compatible at all with easy link at all even in our little led tv don't even get enabled the xv color .

By the way hdmi works similar to dvi and composite inputs so color treatment are different also since is doing up scaling the resulting video gets out with a modified color gamut similar to HD , SD signals the colors red and yellow have less shades while on HD have more shades , I tried using my dvd player in progressive and changing the color gamut to HD in advanced options on my panasonic television and the difference is notorious.
