Sorry about the delay in answering your post.
The Philips SRP5107/27 does not have a preprogrammed device code for the RCA DTA880. You will have to use the Learn mode for each of the buttons that you wish to program.
The Philips SRP5107/27 can only learn about 60 buttons at the most for all of the devices, as per the manual. The Philips SRP5107/27 has 43 buttons per device button (I used the DVR device button for the RCA) on it that can be programmed individually. Out of that total of 60 button memory the device button you use for the RCA will chew up 40 of those memory locations.
It would be best to write down all the buttons on the RCA remote by name, and then all the buttons by name on the Philips on a sheet of paper.
Then you can create a key to program the Philips SRP5107/27, the key will have of course the buttons on both remotes that obviously perform the same function but there will be some buttons that do not have the same name but you will still need. This key will come in handy on those occassions when you are wodering what key is supposed to do what. I actuall made a spreadsheet that I keep the key on, as to be able to print it up or look at it when the written key is lost
I recommend that you obtain a manual for the Philips SRP5107/27. To obtain a manual if you do not have one is to Google: philips srp5107/27 universal remote control manual, and select a site that has PDF in front of it, or go to the Philips site and go to the support pages. To enter the learning mode you need the manual as it is a tedious task.
Because of the 60 key memory restriction on the Philips SRP5107/27 I have replaced it with a Sony RM-VLZ620. Which I picked up on E-Bay, and downloaded a manual on the internet from Sony Support. Everything I buy, before I purchase it, I obtain a manual from the manufacturer's support page especial if it is used/Goodwill.

Guest - How do i program remote to turn on and shut off tv.

It depends on what type of remote and who the manufacturer is. The best thing to do is to Google the remote's manufacture name, the remote's model nimber and then the word manual. As an example you could enter; philips srp5107/27 universal remote control manual.

Purchasing a remote from Goodwill even if it is the same manufacturer as the TV does not guarantee that it will work.

A little more info is needed. Purchasing a new Universl Remote does not always work either. And the TV can be a problem too. I had a customer that was using a TV that did not have the capability to use a remote. His TV was actually a Monitor. Andyes, I have made service calls on equipment that the cleaning crew had unpluged the computer and monitor set.

To be able to better assist you the info concerning your remote isneeded, as well as the TV. For both items the Manufacturers name and model number is needed.

Hi Obie2kanobi. Thanks for the update. My apologies for not replying sooner. I had surgery before your reply and was offline for a couple of months. By the time I recovered, I had a lot of catch-up to do and side-lined the DTA -> SRP project. I just recently got back to looking at programming the remote. I saw in post no. 20 here (by RF Steve) that the Philips SRP5107/27can be finicky to program. I have to go out of town for a week or two and will try to get it done when I get back. Once again, thank you.

I have that Philips remote. I have it programmed using the "learn" function for devices ranging from my PVR to my fireplace. It will take a few tries to get the hang of programming it, but once you get it it's quite easy to set up.

Watch out, the unit works good and records good but the remote is a POS. In less than a year several buttons have stopped working and others are starting to not work well. So far I haven't found anything that will work with this unit.

I recently purchased this unit and everything works great except for pausing, fast forwarding, and rewinding live TV. I can record shows and rewind and fast-forward those but nothing happens on live TV. Is this a problem with my unit, the USB or the remote? Or something else in setting it up?

Setting the time on the RCA DTA880 is done by using the remote. Press the M (Menu) button then using the right arrow key highlight the center Icon, the one with the clock on it. Once the Clock Icon is highlighted use the arrow down and up keys on the remote to make your selections. Unfortunately I just found out that my RCA Remote Battery is dead too but I have not used the actual RCA remote for over a year. I use a progamable universal remote instead. Even though the instruction manual is written in a second langauge english you should refer to the manual. However, there are some offical YouTube videos that can be viewed that will help.

While in time set part of menu, everything disappeared, no sound; no picture. No problems prior to that. Now I can't even bring up the menu on the screen. Any suggestions?

S,

Chinese-built converter boxes are legendary for failing capacitors in their power supplies, so unplug it and let it cool to room temperature and then try it again. Also, you could put a new (or known to be good) battery in your remote control unit. Good luck, and please let us know what happens.

Jim, I had already tried both of your suggestions without success. Just really perplexing that the remote will no longer bring up the converter box menu. In any case, thanks for trying to help.
