new replacement of damaged receiver - DirecTV DVR

For DirecTV TV services which include DVRs and receivers, new replacement of damaged receiver I contacted tech chat and was told i could replace my damaged (shorted out) receiver by buying a new one and calling in to activate. Question is this a true replacement with no 2 yr commitment or is this a new account purchase. I have been a customere for years and don't want another 2 year deal. The receiver shorted out and I just want to replace it. My other receivers are on vacation till I return to my winter home by the end of this month, then I will be back in service. Meantime I need to replace the damaged one I use while traveling in my motor home.
Please advise if the tech was correct with the replacement. it was Marketa B. (STK0038)
