Piggie is Gone, I have left the room

Well after constantly hearing everything was the fault of the left. Bomb throwing.

Seeing the forum becoming a place to promote at least 2 companies antenna sales, free advertising.

After many months of thousands of hours helping, working for free, I have rethought how I use my personal time.

There are plenty of people here that can answer questions, suggesting what you want with out my insisting the antennas I like, because they are big, made in America, and work.

My time is over, talk to everyone later. Talk to me over at AVS where those that upset me here, don't seem to want to post? I wonder why.

Over and out...........

I know there's been a lot of bickering, Piggie, but I hope you change your mind or will at least pop in from time to time. You've been a great help to me in the past.

Good lord? what happened? i know my internet was down for a week or two but damn.
I think all you have to do is read how argumentative some of the topics get here and it's usually brought on by one or two of the same people. This site is about television, stereos, and such. It's really not intended to be a political forum, and there really shouldn't be as much dissension as there is.

I wasn't aware anyone was recently talking politics? in fact there's not even a forum for it unless it's one i never visit?

The one thing i haven't seen on this forum (surprisingly) is flame wars. i may get a little aggravated once in awhile about something and i do rant, but personal attacks i've yet to see.

I was also unaware of Mr. Know it All's problems. i completely missed that one, and i was here the entire time.

The worst i've seen (and deleted) were from spammers.

Sometimes it's politics and sometimes it's just, well, unpleasantness. I've seen it in the middle of threads where it makes no sense at all. It might depend on what topics you're reading. Regardless, I see Jay has left Piggie a PM, and I'm hoping those two can resolve things. I miss having Piggie around.

Yeah, he was the best advice giver and also was the best at catching spammers. i may be an IT grad but still i don't think anyone could compare to the tech knowledge Piggie had.

AVS is crap. There's really no place to discuss DTV technology in general over there. Discussion about sub-channels or other DTV related technology issues is all shunted into the CECB sub forum, because there's no place else to put it, and they won't create any place for it. There's also this moderator named Ken H. who is a total piece of garbage. Tell him he's being arrogant in a post, and he'll ban you. He'll even edit your post to change the nature of what you are saying to fit his viewpoint. For instance, I posted the thread about Comcast/NBC and Universal Sports over on AVS. Same topic title. He kept editing my topic title by putting a question mark in saying, that It was only "speculation" and not fact. I told the MoFo it was my opinion/prediction and if he didn't agree with that, he could disagree by posting in a reply, but he shouldn't be putting words in people's mouths or changing the nature of a posters words. The guy is the worst abuser of moderation power I have ever seen. AVS stinks with idiots like that being given power. Forget that place.

I don't even know what that site is but I will say that there is a very important middle ground that I think admin's should be on. There's being anal and there's being absent. Both are damaging in my opinion.

You should've seen the 'bot moderators' i've had issues with on other forums. that was years ago though. 'they' hosted ads and also had automatic regex scripts that could either edit your posts to make it more 'G-rated' or even warn/ban users based upon a pre-set range of wording or whatever it wanted.

Thank you! :gramps:

I was taught in school and have found it to be true, that my background in Physics and Math while theoretical, have allowed me over my life to understand many technical fields without formal training in their specifics.

I was pretty sure I had chosen a good major when my first engineering job, the cheif engineer had a BS in Math and MA in Physics. Reginald McCoy was his name and he designed and built the first commercial digital video manipulator and switcher. That was 1978, much ahead of his time, though it was just a couple years later we were swamped with competitors.

I guess most people here don't realize I spend only a short year in a TV station, but spend 2 decades building TV studio equipment for 3 different companies. So most of my background in TV was from an manufacturing engineers point. Though I think the most fun I had in TV was the year I worked at the TV station. I probably should have stayed there long term, but at the time another company offered me double my salary to be their customer service engineer on another digital manipulator/switcher.

Most of my antenna knowledge was from reading book, mainly in the late 70's and early 80's for my ham radio hobby. TV antennas followed right in that as a couple of my favorite ham bands were right below and above high band TV, and the other was just below UHF TV. So the antenna experience followed to TV.

That's interesting, Piggie. You made the same choice that a lot of people made. I think we all shortchange the importance of really loving a job. Sometimes we don't have a choice, but sometimes we do and we just don't see the situation clearly enough. Anyway, be it from books or experience, it's working!

Take that to the next level. I was hired by a local restaurant to wash their dishes. I love the job. People there are fun, positive, spiritual (not religious) and we take things a day at a time. Relax together when there is time and work hard as a team together. It's only 3 miles from the house and the nearest TV station is 45 miles. So I probably come out even saving the gas and wear and tear. And I could not wish to work with more positive people. So yeah, happiness is more important.

Everyone any more besides needing to change towns, often does it for another 10K a year. They work a miserable job for the money. To do what with it? What is the point of all this material stuff? I like the basics and not being too far behind, granted, but I don't own a 52 inch Plasma or live in a 2000 square foot house, or drive a new car.

But in American it's not an acceptable life style what I have chosen. I have a paid car, house, so I have little in the way of bills. But I am penalized by having saved money, and don't make enough to buy decent health care, which at my age is becoming scarier every day. Those that think socialism is a cradle to grave system, better look hard at what uncontrolled capitalism has become. It's all planned cradled to grave.

What the heck are you ranting at? this is so far off topic and a personal grudge I should delete it. But I don't want to be that kind of mod, unless it keeps repeating or goes to the next level.

You must have been in a ranting mood.
