As far as specs go, the VSX-40 has 7.1 channels, 5 total HDMI ports, and a slew of other inputs. The price point on this receiver is about $350 which is perfect for my budget. Does anyone here own this unit? I need to replace my cheap HTIB and wouldn't mind saving a bit on the receiver and spending more on the speakers.

This is an Elite model right? I can remember when Pioneer Elite receivers ran close to $1K just for their lower end models, years ago. Unfortunately, the Elite badge doesn't mean that you're getting the best of the best anymore. The VSX-40 only comes with USB for networking where the 50 and above range come with ethernet ports if that's important to you if you want to stream audio from more than just a hard drive. You'll only get two speaker zones as well.

It's still not a bad option for a receiver if someone isn't concerned about Apple airplay. One thing nice about Elites is that they come with a longer warranty.
