Can anyone recommend me a quiet external hard drive for my HTPC? The 5 year old Seagate hard drive that I've been using is loud when it spools up.

Aaron,

In my experience when hard drives make ANY audible new noise other than their normal noise, that's a call to you it is failing and all of your data can be lost in a heartbeat.

Poof -- gone.

Yeah, I've lost a couple of hard drives over the years, but this one has always made that kind of a noise. I wish I could demo an HD drive before I purchased a new one.

Click HERE for a quiet hard drive. Click HERE for an enclosure, which will be necessary because you intend to use it externally. You'll also need to buy an SATA cable.
