receiver on vacation - DirecTV

I have a Hr-21 receiver hooked up in my garage, I'm going to disconnect it and bring it in the house for the winter since i dont have heat in the garage. I heard i can put this receiver on vacation and not have to get a new acess card when i call in the spring to turn service on for that receiver. ( this is an owned receiver ) Is this a pain in the butt to do or should i just take it in the house and keep it plugged in over the winter? Thank you in advance for any advice
