"An increasing number of Americans, like Mancini, are "cutting the cord" to their subscription television service. They depend on a combination of Internet streaming services and old-fashioned, antenna-based over-the-air television.

The media research firm SNL Kagan reported in November that the number of Americans who pay for television service declined for the second consecutive quarter. A combined 335,000 people canceled their subscriptions in that period because of a weak economy and the increased availability of "over-the-top" -- that is, Internet-based -- programming."
