I have 2 older 5" portable TVs with built in antennas. They are always plugged in so power is not a problem. The problem is there is no external connections for an antenna. The antennas are connected inside the housing. Is there a way to connect a converter to these TVs or are they now just trash?

No inputs of any kind.

If I took a 75 to 200 ohm adapter, cut off the 2 screw lugs and clamped the 2 wires to the existing antenna, would that work?

Most portable TVs have what looks like a headphone jack but is labeled 'EXT ANT' somewhere on it. if it has one you can get a adapter that gives you two RCA-type A/V plugs to use it with any external input, converter box, or VCR.
