Sound drops - DirecTV

On my mini genie, about every 5 minutes my sound drops for about 1 to 2 seconds. I have reset both mini and the main genie & unplugged both devices for up to 10 minutes. It is not the TV as it is new and DVD works fine. I called Tech support and went in circles for 40 minutes of my life and then they wanted $50 to send someone out...LOL...I'll send back all the equipment first!
Any suggestions? before I tell then to pick up their equipment and deal with all the legal garbage to get out of the contract.
