System erased my uverse recordings! - DirecTV

Today my phone line/uverse went down. I called 800-288-2020 and the on-line technician re-booted modem, etc. and the service was returned. HOWEVER, DURING THE PROCESS, MY UVERSE/TV RECORDINGS WERE ERASED. THE TECHNICIAN SAID HE KNEW OF NO WAY TO BRING THEM BACK. IS THERE A WAY. HOW CAN THIS BE PREVENTED IN THE FUTURE WHEN THE SYSTEM IS RE-BOOTED?
