It was a long time coming when in March, NBC finally ordered up another season of The Sing-Off, its reality song competition hosted by Nick Lachey. The series began in 2009 as a one-week event of five episodes. After a second successful round in 2010, NBC made the show a regular series in 2011. It kept the potential for more shows on the back burner for months before announcing a fourth year. However, the program will return to its 2009 limited run event status in lieu of weekly editions.

Lachey currently is hosting NBC's The Winner Is, another reality music face-off, that is in its first season.

Returning to judge The Sing-Off are Shawn Stockman and Ben Folds, but season 3 judge Sara Bareilles is out. Bareilles had taken over for Nicole Scherzinger, who judged the first two rounds, when she went on to other things. New to the judging panel will be country singer, Jewel, who is no stranger to reality series. In 2007, the singer/actress judged the country contest, Nashville Star. She was also a regular audience member and guest singer on Dancing with the Stars in 2009 when her husband, rodeo star Ty Murray, appeared as a contestant.
