I need a couple of digital converter boxes for non-hd ready TV's. I'd prefer to have a good program guide if possible. Any recommendations? Thank you.

:welcome: Jeremy,

Having a good program guide is nice but complete local schedules are available FREE online. I would rather have the best converter box available to receive the most channels, in my home.

I like my Channel Master-7000 boxes: they have steel rather than plastic cases, they are made in Bulgaria rather than Red China and unlike other Brands/Models they never overheat and quit.

When I was shopping for mine, I was told by many here that DTV Pal units were the best. I got two and was pretty happy with them. One froze from time to time, but the other worked very well until I finally got a new TV.

I was told the same, but my DTV PAL overhated and quit functioning.

I resolved the overheating by turning it's case into 'Swiss cheese' - per photos that can be found in my forum profile.

The DTV PAL converter box is poorly designed and I do NOT recommend it. :horse:

I have four Zenith DTT-901 boxes and two DISH DTV Pals. Of the two devices, the DTV Pal has the best programming guide, BUT the Zenith DTT-901s are more sensitive and selective than the DTV Pals.

Same here (except one of them is labeled an Insignia since it came from Best Buy. Exact same unit though) and they have a better tuner than the DTV Pal I bought from K-Mart (and returned). Been using the Zenith's for 3 or 4 years now and all are still going strong.

"overhated"? fraudian slip? lol I was using both of mine much more often back then but never had an overheating problem, thank goodness.
