Why does the box need frequent rebooting? - DirecTV

At least several times a week, we get the message that the TV is searching for a signal. Rebooting the DVR is the only solution. In addition, we had a problem toward the end of last night's Alabama/Clemson football game, in which the audio cut out and then the video pixellated. Again, rebooting was necessary. Finally, we also have a problem in that the system loses its internet/password connection. In this case, rebooting does not seem to make a difference. Is the genie defective?
