With Shows From 'I Love Lucy' to 'Perry Mason', Me-TV is Going Strong

Me-TV is going strong. Begun in December 2010, the MGM Television distributed network finally got on the Nielsen grid for measured ratings last spring, getting its first results at the end of the April 7th viewing week. At that time, the channel that is owned by Wiegel Broadcasting had a .2 share, ranking 10th in a lineup for 14 networks.

As it continues to grow, Me-TV continues to shift their lineup of shows and add new stations to its list of affiliates. In September, five more localities joined the family, including WILM in Wilmington, N.C. and KTXS in Abilene, TX. That gave Me-TV a total of 155 stations across the country, bringing it up to a total clearance of 90 percent.

The joy of Me-TV is easy to understand for its target audience, viewers from the 35 to 64 age group instead of the big networks which try to lure in adults in the prime 18 to 49 range. Vintage TV shows air constantly on Me-TV, including favorites like 'The Dick Van Dyke Show' and different versions of Lucille Ball hits such as 'I Love Lucy' and 'The Lucy Show.' Another big hit with fans are multiple airings of Raymond Burr's 'Perry Mason' legal drama.

Fans of Jack Webb shows, often referred to as Webb TV, are especially fond of Me-TV as it airs what are arguably the best three of the actor/producer's series: the Webb-starrer 'Dragnet,' the Martin Milner and Kent McCord vehicle 'Adam-12, and the Robert Fuller and Randy Mantooth show 'Emergency!' that is credited with boosting the then-new paramedic program that is a staple in today's society. In fact, the shows are shown back to back in a two hour block.

Me-TV is going after these baby boomers and perhaps those just not enthralled by somewhat unmoralistic, violent-filled dramas and comedies that abound on other cable systems and regular nightly television. They even remove less footage than is typical, making the cuts less choppy and delighting viewers who often watch even though they know the shows inside out. Many watchers are fully aware when their favorites have been uber edited for commercials. So far, Me-TV is keeping it memorable with fewer edits.

As of now, everything is working as its September Nielsen results showed that Me-TV reached 500,000 viewers twice. Total viewership is up to nearly 370,000 viewers and the network has at least once doubled its initial share, reaching .4 in early September.
