Xfinity Stream (Android/Fire OS) excessive data usage when PAUSED! (225GB/month) - XFinity

I use the Xfinity Stream app on an Amazon Fire 7 Tablet (9th gen) to listen to the local news station in the morning.

The tablet is always plugged in and set to "stay awake when plugged in".

After streaming I tap the screen to bring up the on screen controls, and hit the STOP control in the center of the screen.

At this point, the video playback pauses, but the image on the screen will update every 15 seconds or so.

However, it looks like it is not really paused. The tablet is still receiving the full video stream even though it is not "playing".

It will do this seemingly FOREVER. It will never timeout and disconnect.

I checked on my router and the ip addredd for that tablet has used 550GB in two months!
